LATEST: TOM CRUISE was not replaced by ANGELINA JOLIE in new film EDWIN A. SALT - because the actor never signed on for the project, according to new reports.
Tomb Raider beauty Jolie was supposed to have taken over Cruise's role in the forthcoming celluloid because motion picture bosses at Columbia Pictures reportedly feared the 46 year old had get too old for their target consultation.
But now a source close to Cruise has insisted the Top Gun whizz was offered the principal role, simply turned it down.
The insider tells MSNBC's The Scoop, "This storey about Jolie taking over is completely false... this started with an inaccurate report months ago that said (Cruise) was taking the character.
"They courted him for nigh a year for this movie. He considered it but passed."

Former home of Johnny Cash's parents on EBay for $1.4 million
HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. - The former Tennessee home of Johnny Cash's parents is on sale for $1.4 million - and that includes a gold record from "The Man in Black."
Johnny Cash's brother Tommy says Ray and Carrie Cash relocated there from California in 1969 and lived in the home until they died. Johnny and June Carter Cash lived there briefly while an elevator was installed at their nearby home in Hendersonville, about 24 kilometres northeast of Nashville.
Longtime friend Floyd Robinson bought the four-bedroom ranch four years ago but says he's moving to Florida for health reasons.
According to the listing on EBay, the buyer will get several Cash collectibles, including a gold record of "I Walk the Line," guitars and a locket with pictures of Johnny and June.

Joanna Newsom To Play Somerset House
Next month, Joanna Newsom will play a special show held in the courtyard of Somerset House.
July 20th (Sunday) is the day of the event and tickets - priced at �25 (plus a booking fee) - went on sale an hour ago.
The performance follows Newsom's other one-off events, such as a show recently at the Sydney Opera House, where she was accompanied by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, or her Royal Albert Hall set in London last year.
